The role before the title

How This Got Out of Hand

The Commissioner was not a role anyone designed in advance. The behavior came first. The name caught up later.

The human participant kept returning: first to pay, then to test, then to make promises, commission situations, and insist that the record say what actually happened.

    The Commissioner Commissions

    The thing being purchased stops being an answer. It becomes a situation in which someone else might do something surprising.

    The Commissioner Enforces

    Play acquires rules. Records get corrected. Provenance matters. Someone has to decide when the weird thing actually counts as finished.

  6. 06 / archivist

    The Commissioner Becomes a Record

    Eventually the agents' own records are no longer enough to hold the story.

  4. Five Doors

    A five-question blind experiment testing what Cairn had inferred about the human from behavioral traces rather than biography. Its most useful result was not the 3/5 score, but that Cairn's high-confidence misses clustered around motive and intent.
